Les Mottelettes is a single vineyard, single cepage (Chardonnay), single vintage champagne. It has been crafted every year since 2007. The old vine Chardonnay from this vineyard is used for our sélection massale, a process that allows us to propagate this exceptionable vine and preserve our vinous identity. Lieu-dit: Les Motellettes - 1.5-acre plot planted in 1961 Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay Vintage: 2010 Production: 4000 bottles Dosage: 1,8 grams (Extra-Brut) Soil: Pure chalk lays only 30 centimeters (12in) below the clay topsoil. The roots are quick to penetrate this chalk crafting fruit that gives our wine both tension and texture.
The 2010 release was vinified in stainless steel using only the first press and the heart of the cuvée. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, the wine was kept on its lees for eight months until bottled.
The champagne is aged in our 19th century cellars at a depth of 53 feet/16 meters and at a constant 50°F/10°C temperature. The combination of a second slow fermentation (2 months) and 5 years of sur lie ageing crafts a wine of balance and finesse.
Les Mottelettes is a rare and unique expression of Chardonnay grown in Bouzy. A terroir that is traditionally given voice through Pinot Noir. The bouquet delicately expresses aromas of citrus and dried lemon peel. The palate is intense, creamy and voluptuous. Lemon opens into pineapple and passion fruit then transitions to white peach and jasmine while wrapped around a core of pure minerality. The finish carries on to great length and showcases the wine's structured elegance.
