Coteaux Champenois

Feted at the French 17th century court, Coteaux Champenois was considered the wine of kings. Perpetuating this heritage is our Champenois duty. We tasted vintages, spanning decades, to deepen our understanding of its rich history. Common sense prevails; the soil is fundamental. We chose a plot in the heart of the Bouzy hillside whose clay would rightfully express the power of the terroir and we painstakingly selected thoroughbred-quality Pinot Noir vines. The Coteaux Champenois is crafted from low yields, long periods in tanks, whole bunches or destemmed grapes and precise ageing in barrels. Our very first vintage was 2016.

Bouzy Rouge

Les Mignottes - 2019

Les Mignottes is an exceptional parcel of old vine Pinot Noir, planted on the south-facing slopes of Bouzy in 1970, with ideal exposure.

Yields are low (35hl/hectare) and vinification is done in the typical Burgundian fashion: 15 days in tanks with indigenous yeasts and 12 months aging in French oak. There is no filtering of the wine before bottling.

« Bouzy is the quintessential terroir of the southern Montagne de Reims, its vineyards arrayed across a magnificent, fully south-facing slope. This ensures a consistently high level of ripeness, creating ample, generous wines that are perhaps rounder and less tense than those of its neighbor Ambonnay, while also being capable of great longevity and complexity. Pinot noir reigns supreme in this section of the Montagne de Reims, and Bouzy has historically been highly regarded for its red wines as well as its pinot-dominated champagnes, its chalky subsoil providing structure and finesse to complement and lift the rich ripeness and opulent, red-fruit flavors. » Peter Liem
